ZOOLOGY LABORATORY
The department of Zoology has two laboratories well equipped with different instruments for the practical and experimental work as per the syllabus. Instruments needed for animal dissection, hematology, biochemistry, histology, microscopy, ecology, found in the laboratory, are as below:
NAME OF THE INSTRUMENT |
USES |
Microtome |
Used to cut extremely thin slices of tissues |
Binocular microscope |
For observing cells, tissues, samples of other materials |
Ocular and stage micrometer |
Used to measure the size of magnified objects |
Camera lucida prism type |
It performs an optical superimposition of the subject being viewed upon the surface upon which the artist is drawing. |
Camera lucida mirror type |
It performs an optical superimposition of the subject being viewed upon the surface upon which the artist is drawing. |
Centrifuge |
It is used for the separation of fluids based on density |
Electronic balance |
For measuring perfect weight |
Digital colorimeter |
Measures the absorbance of particular wavelengths of light by a specific solution . It is most commonly used to determine the concentration of a known solute in a given solution. |
Hot air oven |
Uses dry heat to sterilize or for microtomy |
Micropipette |
Used to measure and transfer small volumes of liquids. |
Haemometer |
It is used for measuring hemoglobin concentration in blood |
Haemoglobinometer |
It is used for measuring hemoglobin concentration in blood |
Light microscope |
Visualization of microscopic objects |
Heamocytometer |
Counting of blood cells |
