The Department of Chemistry, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga founded in December 1980 with General Degree Course. In the month of  August 1996, the Department started the Honours Course. At present, the Departmental student strengths are 39(Hons.) and 170 (General). Though at the beginning there was only one faculty member and one laboratory attendant in this Department, now it has got good faculty strength including three full-time faculties (Dr Rabiul Alam, M.Sc., Ph. D., Assistant Professor, and Head;   Dr Sucheta Joy, M.Sc., Ph. D., Assistant Professor; Dr. Debasmita Sardar, M. Sc., Ph. D., Assistant Professor) and two SACT (Mr Tanmoy Pandit, M. Sc., Ms Subhra Dholey, M. Sc., B.Ed) as well as two laboratory staff (Jayanta Khamrui, Skilled Lab Worker; Bappaditya Karmakar, Lab Attendant). At present, the Department is enriched with several facilities. It has got two well-equipped laboratories (including two spectrophotometers, potentiometer, conductometer, chemical BALANCE, Digital BALANCE and m ), a well maintained Departmental Library and high-speed internet connection. Departmental Wall Magazines are published and Departmental seminars have been organized as a part of student’s activity. The faculty members perform Career Counseling/Mentoring of the students. The students of the Department of Chemistry are achieving good results in University examinations for the last few years and many of our passed out students have got admissions in Post Graduation courses in different Universities/Institutions. Last but not the least, students of this Department are also cracking different competitive examinations and some of them are well placed in leading chemical companies.
