Rabindra mahavidyalaya, Champadanga, Hooghly, started forty two years ago in 1971 with only one department which is the department of Commerce having only eighty students, two teachers and three Non-teaching staff. The department was established on the 8th day of November, 1971 with only B.Com  (Pass) course  as the only programme. Many renowned teachers were the faculty members in this department, namely Prof. Upananda Roy, Prof. Sailendranath Sarkar, Late Tarit Roy, Prof Asim Kumar De and Prof Amal Kanta Hati.  Presently the department is running the B.Com Honours and General degree course with the following faculty members:

Prof. Manas Kumar Jana- M.Com, M.Phil, Ph.D, B.Ed who is also the Principal and Secretary of the College, Dr. Tanmay Bandyopadhyay, Associate Profesor -M.Com, M.Phil, ACMA, who is acting as H.O.D., Dr.Subrata Roy, Assistant Professor, M.Com, Ph.D., Dr. Somnath Das (On lien from 01.10.2015), M.Com, M.Phil, MBA, Ph.D. and Dr.Paritosh Chandra Sinha, Assistant Professor, M.Com, M.Phil, Ph.D.

The Department has got a Computer laboratory which consists of five computers where the commerce students practically can learn the information technology as related to their undergraduate syllabus. The department motivates/inspires the students by conducting the career counseling, mentoring programme and enrich their knowledge by organizing departmental seminar, commerce quiz, class test etc.
