The Department of Zoology, Rabindra Mahavidyalaya, Champadanga, Hooghly started its journey with Higher secondary course and General degree course in the session 1984-85 with two faculties Dr. Sumita Joardar and Dr. Nipankar Hazra. The department started its Honours course in the session 1996-97 with an intake of ten students along with four faculties by adding two other faculties Dr.Asim Kumar Samanta and Dr.J.Biswas with the previous faculties.  Presently Dr. Baisakhi Saha, Souren Dutta,  Sudha Anjella Dhan (replaced by Dr. Payel Bhattacharjee) are full time Assistant Professors, along with three SACTs, Mr. Palas Kanti Manna, Ms. Eureka Mondal, and Ms. Piyali Pakhira with one permanent non teaching staff, Sri Mrinal Kanti Bera are managing the department. The Department has full fledged, well equipped laboratory with compound Microscope, Colorimeter, Light Microscope, Digital HB Meter, Haemocytometer, Binocular Microscope, Centrifuge, ELISA Teaching kit, Incubator, Microtome machine etc with class room facilities with a good number of Honours and General students in 1st year, 2nd year and 3rd year. The department conducts departmental educational excursions which is included in their syllabus on self financing basis every year to collect different samples, specimens which in turn help the students and the department itself. The faculties are well qualified and dedicated towards their duties and inspire and motivate the students through career counseling, mentoring and enrich the students by organizing departmental seminars, mock tests, etc.
