History

The under graduate department of statistics at Rabindra Mahavidyalaya started functioning from July, 2003 with some guest faculty. This department offers general course in statistics to the students from other science departments and pure pass students. Rabindra Mahavidyalaya is one of the very few colleges under The University of Burdwan offering this subject. This department has got one full time faculty, Prof. Dabashis Samanta in the year 2015. At the end of the year 2017, he left this college and joined in an university as an Assistant Professor in Statistics. After that Dr. Shuvojit Mondal (M.Sc, Ph. D, Assistant Professor  in Mathematics) was handleing this department as an acting Head.  Next, in the year 2019, Dr. Sadananda Chatterjee (M.Sc, Ph. D, Assistant Professor in Statistics) has joined this college and took the charge of Headship of this department from him. Currently he is the Head of the department of Statistics. This department involves in research work in the different area of statistics like reliability theory, survival analysis, especially in step stress model with international publications in journals like “Journal of Statistical Planning and inference”, “Statistical Methodology” etc. The Present Student strength in General course is 30.
